Why is Israel betting on the victory of the extreme right in the European elections?

Dr. Jawad Al-Hindawi

Between the 6th and 9th of this month, European countries will witness the European Parliament elections. The majority of opinion polls, which were conducted in all European countries, indicate a significant advance for the European far-right parties, compared to the previous elections, and relative to the traditional European political parties.

The purpose of this article is not to analyze the reasons for the predicted victory of the far-right parties, but rather to find out what this has to do with Israel.

In other words, what is Israel waiting for, and what are the commonalities between Israel and the far-right parties?

Israel is counting on the populism of far-right parties to stop the deterioration of the entity’s reputation and status in European public opinion, and to put an end to the demands of European peoples in various sectors (students, transportation companies, markets, arms factories) to boycott Israel.

It is also counting on far-right parties coming to power or holding decision-making power in the country in order to prevent other European countries from recognizing the State of Palestine.

But what is the interest of far-right parties in Israel, or, in other words, what do far-right parties in Europe and around the world expect from Israel?

On 5/21/2024, Madrid hosted an international gathering or conference of far-right parties in the world, in preparation for next Sunday’s European parliamentary elections, and with the aim of support and mobilization.

One of the slogans and demands of this gathering or conference was to “support Israel in its war against Hamas”. It is true that this slogan or demand was not essential, compared to the topics of immigration and internal security in European countries, but to be included in the slogans and demands of the leaders of the extreme right is something that deserves to be stopped, questioned and foresee its consequences or repercussions in the future, especially since some of the leaders of the extreme right are currently in power, such as Italy, as we are used to the extreme right parties in Europe, paying much attention to domestic politics, and rarely addressing foreign policy topics, especially hot issues.

It is also worth mentioning that Mr. Santiago Ascal, head of the Spanish FOCUS party, a far-right party, visited Israel and met with the Prime Minister, and expressed his regret over Spain’s recognition of the State of Palestine, and his party’s rejection of this recognition. He did not go to Israel as the head of FOCUS, but as a representative of all far-right parties.

I go back to answer the question, to find out the interest of the far-right parties with Israel.

It is the World Zionist Movement or the World Zionist Organization that brings the two parties together: Israel and the far-right parties.

For the first time, the extreme right-wing parties, in pre-election opinion polls, are achieving exciting expectations in their success and victory, and the leaders of these parties feel that they need strong support (financial, media and political) from the Zionist establishment to cross the threshold of victory and success, and it is also in the interest of the Zionist movement and Israel to invest in these rising parties in the European arena.

Aren’t the far-right parties afraid of losing voters because of their pro-Israeli stance and despite the popular opinion in favor of Palestine and the resistance?

The audience of these parties are Europeans who reject the presence of foreigners in Europe, who (and I mean foreigners) are mostly Arab and non-Arab Muslims. Therefore, for religious and nationalist reasons, the audience of the extremist Yemeni parties is not sympathetic to Palestine and what is happening in Gaza. What matters to the far-right parties is their constituency, which, according to opinion polls, constitutes one-third of the electorate.

The position of extreme right-wing parties in Europe, Latin America and the world meets the position of Israel and Zionism on several key commonalities:

The first of these commonalities is anti-Islamic extremism. All the resistance movements against Israel in the region fall under the Islamic identity, and thus the far-right parties meet with Zionism and Israel in their consensus on hostility to Islam.

The second common denominator is Arab nationalism, as most immigrants in Europe are of Arab descent, and what we mentioned above about the extremism of Yemeni parties against Islam is also true of their hostility and extremism towards immigrants of Arab descent.

The third common denominator is the intellectual extremism that unites Zionism, Israel and most of the extremist Yemeni parties, and its origins and source are Nazism, occupation, confiscation of the will of peoples and exploitation of their wealth.

The convergence between the goals and positions of the extreme right-wing parties and Israel is not an accidental convergence, it has its pillars and studied paths, and the leaders of the World Zionist Movement are monitoring and tracking the paths of the extreme right-wing populist parties, for the purpose of directing them towards what is required in Europe and internationally

  1. The answer to this question, is the same as the reason history has shown an international animosity towards those of the Jewish faith. Nothing new here, history is just repeating itself.
